Your life in weeks

Each square is one week of a long life. Enter your birthday to see the weeks you’ve lived, this week, and the ones still ahead.

How to use

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Adjust life expectancy if you like. Global average life expectancy is about 73; many countries are above 80.
  3. Each row is one year, each square one week. Filled squares are behind you; the red one is this week.
  4. Share your result, or save the page and come back to watch the grid fill in.

Why weeks?

A year feels long and a day feels small, but a week is the unit most of our plans are made in. Seeing every week of a life on one screen makes it easier to ask what matters in the ones ahead. The idea was popularised by Tim Urban’s “Your Life in Weeks” essay.

Frequently asked questions

Is my birthday stored?

Only in your browser, so the page remembers it next time. It isn’t sent anywhere.

How are heartbeats estimated?

Using an average resting heart rate of 75 beats per minute for every minute you’ve lived. Real numbers vary a lot.

What life expectancy should I use?

It depends on where you live and your health. The setting is just for perspective; try a few values.
